"Parakeet", 2011

Navigating a space between the concepts of the visible and invisible, I experiment with
relationships that revolve around human expectancy and animal intuitives. The idea of existing in
such a melancholic emotional state has always been in question for me. I am consistently rolling
around ideas of existence and non-existence, loss and the possibility of it. I have a tendency to
develop unconditional relationships with ideas and objects; this is seen as evidence of a need or
longing for something that is absent. This need or focus is pleasurable and is used as a sort of
non-physical bloodletting. I work to develop my content through awareness of social relations
and choices in materials, adapting a visual overabundance of fallibility, alienation, and artistic
content.

April was born in 1979 in Strawberry Plains, Tennessee. She received a BFA from the
University of Tennessee and a MFA from the University of South Florida where she was
awarded the Nancy and William Oliver Fellowship. Her exhibition record includes The Beijing
Natural Culture Center, Beijing P.R. China; Contemporary Art Museum, Tampa, FL; Paul
Robeson Gallery, Rutgers, Newark, NJ; The Front, New Orleans, LA; Grace Exhibition Space,
Brooklyn, NY and New Capital Projects, Chicago, IL. April currently lives and works in Brooklyn,
New York.
