On the Surface of the Midwest
Terrence Campagna's residency at threewalls is one chapter of a longer research project—a field–collection trip from Detroit, Michigan to Omaha, Nebraska. Along the way, Campagna will collect materials and create an archive of field video recordings that study overlooked phenomena—from the activity of workers who build, maintain and repair public spaces to the behaviors of sky, light, water, and small creatures on Midwestern surfaces.
Chicago is one of a few points on Campagna’s step-by-step journey into the country’s heartland where he will pause to study a specific place in more depth. Materials, writings, and other records collected during the whole journey will be assembled and edited over the Fall of 2012 while in residence at the Bemis Center in Omaha, Nebraska and at the Neighborhood Center for the Study of Undocumented Relationships in Detroit, where Mr. Campagna is currently Director of Field Research.
