About

“If you’re not crying you didn’t love him.” J’Sun remembers these words from his aunt at his father’s funeral. Through themes of visibility, Black male tenderness, and death as it relates to the church and spiritual traditions, please join us for a conversation guided by Christina Sharpe’s "In the Wake: On Blackness and Being." How does the multi-layered concept of “wake” govern or liberate Black and brown lives? FREE and OPEN TO ALL. This event will be documented by a photographer for archival purposes. This program is made possible in part by the Illinois Arts Council Agency and by the Alphawood Foundation. Artwork by Rebecca Peterson-Hall.
