Threewalls is pleased to announce our participation in EXPO CHICAGO/2016 from September 22-25 at Navy Pier. The Threewalls booth will feature the Black Athena Collective, founded in 2015 as a research and artistic laboratory for experimentation that engages political discourse and practices of spatial construction connected to the African continent.
Comprised of artists Heba Y. Amin and Dawit L. Petros, the collective was invited to present its research and work at the International Conference on Eritrean Studies (ICES) in July 2016, in Asmara, Eritrea. Travel to this highly secretive nation offers the Black Athena Collective a unique opportunity to engage with the complex geopolitics in proximity to Eritrea’s internal conditions. At EXPO CHICAGO, the installation with Threewalls will be work made during these travels, featuring an immersive installation of three dimensional architectural models, a film, and photographic works.
Threewalls is included as one of 23 participants in EXPO CHICAGO’s Special Exhibitions program. Joining 145 leading galleries representing 22 countries and 49 cities from around the world, the Special Exhibitions program offers unique, high-quality presentations and site-specific work throughout Navy Pier’s iconic Festival Hall.
