Our Purpose and Vision
An evolving, Black-led nonprofit organization that unapologetically celebrates Blackness, intersectionality, and exists through Black feminist practices, Threewalls fosters contemporary art practices that respond to lived experiences, encouraging connections beyond art. We center ALAANA (African descent, Latinx, Arab, Asian, and Native American) artists, creatives, and collaborative projects, especially those which are best presented outside of traditional art spaces. Through the internship, we seek to offer a vibrant experiential opportunity for those interested in working within a progressive, thoughtfully inclusive environment.
About the Role
Threewalls’s Programs Intern will provide administrative support to all programs including RaD Lab + Outside the Walls and In-Session Fellowships, virtual engagements, and programs administration. They will gain insights into the ways Threewalls engages with artists, neighborhoods, and communities across Chicago and beyond. They will also have the opportunity to create a culminating project that will live online on the Threewalls Blog.
We are looking for applicants with knowledge of contemporary art, particularly of the African diaspora; experience in exploring the intersections of art and community; and a strong interest in social justice issues surrounding race, disability, and gender equity. We are interested in those who have a desire to support artists, can communicate effectively with a diverse group of creatives, and has a clear understanding of how to use social media and virtual meeting platforms.
This position is suited for someone early in their career or someone looking to pivot their professional and/or artistic practice. We value expertise and knowledge in its many forms and recognize that the academy is not the only place in which knowledge is acquired. Students and non-students alike are welcome to apply.
