Rodney Simpson, Jr.

Television series Lovecraft Country (2020) by Misha Green illuminates the In-Session theme of “call and response” by exploring Black intergenerational healing while combating the traumatic impact of white supremacy with the use of Black magic. We witness each character take Afro-futuristic journeys to remember, reclaim, and reimagine their identities at the intersections of Blackness, queerness, and spirituality. The text was selected because it amplifies Rodney and Jessica's yearning to embody and fight for Black liberation in our multidimensional universe through ancestral creative and spiritual practices.

Rodney Simpson Jr. (he/him/his) is a Black queer embodied storyteller and creative. The spirit of his vocation is aligned to fostering Black joy while uprooting oppressive systemic structures. Rodney is driven to unlock therapeutic spaces in community with his company Modos Chicago by changing the way we heal through movement.
